Margaret is named after Neil Perry’s late mother who was the matriarch of the family, the nurturer and carer, and the one who held everyone together. These wonderful qualities became the inspiration behind the CARE philosophy that Neil created; caring for our suppliers, each other, the community and environment, which he has applied throughout his entire career as a chef and restaurateur.

Situated in Sydney’s Double Bay, Margaret is, at its heart, a neighbourhood restaurant where people come together to experience the best produce sourced in Australia.

Above all, Margaret is where the best ingredients, the best wines and drinks program and craft come together in a unique and lovely experience for our guests. A focus on Australia’s amazing seafood is central to Neil’s cuisine and takes pride of place in our menu. Our dishes are changed daily to reflect which seasonal products are offered fresh to us from our dedicated suppliers.

“Margaret is a neighbourhood restaurant, but it’s also evolved into something more than that. At its core, it’s about comfort, generosity and cosiness.”

Chef Neil Perry AM

Neil Perry AM is a veteran of the Australian restaurant industry and is one of Australia’s leading and most influential chefs.

Neil’s career in the hospitality industry spans four decades. He is founder of the Rockpool Group and creator of brands Rockpool, Rockpool Bar & Grill, Spice Temple, Rosetta, and Margaret. He has also recently opened the bar Next Door, and partnered with Mike and Mia Russell to open Baker Bleu Sydney.

Neil has been the Food, Beverage and Service Director of Qantas for over 25 years, creating one of the best dining experiences in the sky. He has written eleven cookbooks, and through his involvement with the Starlight Children’s Foundation and various other charities, Neil was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2013 for his “significant service to the community as a benefactor of and a fundraiser for charities, and as a chef and restaurateur”.

He is a founder and director of Hope Hospitality Foundation, a charity that has fed 600,000 vulnerable people to date.

The restaurant Margaret is truly a family affair for Neil, with his wife Samantha, daughters Josephine, Macy and Indy deeply involved in its operations.

Next Door

Next Door is the sister restaurant of Margaret, which, quite literally, sits next door to it at the corner of Bay St and Guilfoyle Avenue. Featuring a rolling 12-hour lunch-to-dinner menu, the bar brings you a selection of specially curated small plates such as Woodfire Grilled Peppers, Cherry Tomatoes with Oregano, Braised Zucchini with Mint, Chilli and Pecorino, as well as an amazing selection of Consorcio, Cuca, Pollastrini, Ortiz and Real Conversas tins with some freshly baked sourdough from Baker Bleu. It's also home to the famous Perry hamburger.

"It's just a place to get some really nice hospitality, chill out and enjoy your day," Neil Perry. Sandwiched between Baker Bleu and Margaret, the indoor dining area is cosy and comfortable, with light rattan and white linen furnishings, marble-top tables and an open bar and kitchen.

Baker Bleu

Baker Bleu founders Mike and Mia partnered with Neil Perry last September 2022 to expand interstate from Melbourne and launch their very first Sydney store in leafy Double Bay.

Sitting alongside Margaret and the newly opened Next Door, Baker Bleu serves the staples of coffee, sourdough bread and pastries, with a carefully curated range of pantry essentials. Neil's long-time passion of sandwich making also gets the spotlight, with its offering of sandwiches made fresh daily using only the best seasonal ingredients.

Hope Hospitality Foundation

Founded by Neil Perry AM, Quadrant and Rockpool Dining Group in response to the 2020 pandemic, Hope Delivery was launched to feed international students, visa holders and unemployed hospitality workers who were ineligible for government assistance.

Relaunching as Hope Hospitality Foundation in 2022, Hope Hospitality Foundation exists to provide people who are vulnerable with a wholesome meal and currently provides 5,000 meals per week to people in need across Sydney.

Born out of the hospitality industry, Hope utilises the skills and capability of the hospitality industry to create quality meals and partners with frontline organisations and delivery services to get meals to those who need it most.

Hope is also committed to supporting Australian suppliers and producers, with funds raised contributing to the purchase of good quality, local ingredients. With the capacity to prepare over 5,000 meals per week, we partner with frontline organisations and delivery services to get our delicious, wholesome meals to those that need it most. To date, we have provided over 550,000 meals to Australians in need.
